Learn to Dance

Friendly dance classes that treat you as an individual rather than just one of the crowd. At Jivebeat the emphasis is on you learning to dance your way, with one-to-one help available after every class and a modern teaching style that keeps the fun in learning, whatever your dancing experience.

All our classes are drop-in classes, with no courses to book or specific days that you have to start. Jivebeat LeRoc (modern jive) and Argentine Tango classes always start with the basics, then we add in something more detailed or challenging for anyone with a bit more experience to work with.

Give it a go!

But don't take our word for it, give it a go and see for yourself what has made partner dancing such a huge phenomenon. A Jivebeat evening is as much a social event as it is a dance class, so come with friends and make an evening of it, or come on your own and make new friends when you get there. There is no need to book, just come along, join the fun, and learn to dance! You don't even have to bring a partner!

Event Diary

For our full diary of forthcoming events and classes click here but this is what is happening in Jivebeat over the next week...

Wed 8th May: South Norwood, Croydon Youth Theatre

Regular Class Night

A modern teaching style and modern music. If you have ever been put off by tango classes that spend as much time talking about the traditions and history as they do teaching you how to dance, then give us a try.

Graham teaches using a modern style that concentrates on understanding the technique of tango rather than learning sequences of steps. The tango itself is the same, but the music and the approach may be quite different to what you have seen before. And if you are new to tango then our relaxed and welcoming classes are an ideal introduction.

Thu 9th May: Sevenoaks, St Lukes

Fri 17th May: Dunton Green Village Hall, Dunton Green

X/Tango is Back!

Join us in Dunton Green for our first X/Tango in far too long!

Do you love tango, but just cannot get on with the "traditional" music played at so many milongas? Do you want to get on the floor and dance without all the messing around with cabeceo & mirada - and risking getting told off for daring to go up to someone and asking if they would like to dance? Do you want to expand your tango horizons and find out just how versatile this amazing dance style can be? And do you want to be able to dance other styles such as blues or slow leroc if the mood takes you without the dance police extracting you from the floor by your ear?

If you answered "yes" to any of those you should come along to X/Tango and see what a modern Argentine Tango neolonga can really be like!

Graham plays a selection of alternative tango-danceable music from every genre across the spectrum, some modern electro nuevo that takes the essence of the traditional style and brings it into the 21st century, and occasional wild-cards that will test your musicality. And there will be no vintage "traditional" music at all.

Price for this opening event will be £10 per person. Future X/Tango events will be £12 to stay in line with the price increase of all our classes.
